Student competition

Alongside the main APOSHO 33 conference, IOSH is hosting an exciting student event and award. The Inspiring OSH Student Award ties in with the main conference theme, “driving OSH excellence through communication and collaboration”.

IOSH and APOSHO have created this award to recognise and showcase the innovative and creative work of OSH students. We are looking for OSH students, to submit their paper along with the entry form, with an idea or initiative, which positively enhances the OSH profession through effective communication.

Entries for the Inspiring OSH Student Award are now open. You can also book your place at the APOSHO student event.

Who can enter?

The award is open to all OSH students studying in a country represented by APOSHO, (see terms and conditions for a full list). You must be studying a recognised part-time or full-time OSH course or qualification. These do not need to be IOSH-accredited. You must provide the contact details of your course leader, professor or mentor to verify your work.

If you are shortlisted you should be available to attend the APOSHO 33 conference in Hong Kong, 04–05 December 2018. Although IOSH cannot guarantee financial assistance towards the cost of travel and accommodation, we will endeavour to assist the three shortlisted students to identify sources of sponsorship.

Why should you enter and what could you win?

The APOSHO 33 conference is a high-profile platform to showcase your initiative. As a finalist, you will also have an excellent opportunity to raise your profile within the OSH profession. You will be competing against students based in 18 different countries. With the award being sponsored by IOSH and APOSHO, you could gain global recognition for your work.

1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes

Finalists’ work will be showcased at the APOSHO 33 student event and promoted on the conference website and in the programme, bringing it to the attention of an international audience of academics, OSH professionals, company leaders and policy-makers. The finalists will also receive a free VIP pass to Day 2 of the conference, valued at over HK$ 1,500.

Global recognition

The finalists will gain global recognition for their work by being promoted to IOSH members in over 120 countries via IOSH’s website and Connect e-newsletter, which is distributed to more than 47,000 members around the world. IOSH will also look to raise further the profiles of the finalists in future promotion of the award.

1st prize

As well as all the above prizes, the overall winner will be presented with a trophy and certificate at the student event, by IOSH President Dr Vincent Ho. On Day 2 of the conference the winning initiative will be showcased in a short presentation as part of the main conference programme.

Who are the judges?

The Judging Panel will consist of an IOSH representative, a professor from a local Hong Kong University and an APOSHO representative.
Each entry will be assessed by the Judging Panel against the criteria which have been set out on the entry form. The judges’ decision will be final.
